Practice Makes Perfect

Almost every Sunday, Scott's family gets together for Sunday dinner at his parents house. We almost always have dessert to look forward to once dinner is over. This time we had cupcakes, and decided to give Trent some practice smearing icing all over himself since his 1st birthday is 2 1/2 months away. Did I mention before that he's a good eater? Especially when it comes to dessert! He not only ate some of Scott's cupcake, but we then gave him his own, which he devoured in minutes, and then had a half of mine. I didn't have my camera with me so I grabbed my cellphone to capture this moment...he actually wasn't as messy as I thought he'd be.

So we decided that we'd give Trent spaghetti for the first time today. He's had the baby food version of spaghetti, which smells and looks so appetizing (sense my sarcasm?), but he's never had the homemade stuff. I knew it'd make a mess, so we put a towel underneath his highchair and put his highchair in the kitchen instead of on the carpet where it normally is...it's a good thing! He was a disaster! He smeared it all over his face, hair, arms, stomach, you name it...there was spaghetti on it. I couldn't help but laugh as I looked at his orange smiling face, he enjoyed himself that's for sure! Since it was my turn to clean the kitchen I made a deal with Scott, I said I'd give him a 20 minute massage if he cleaned the kitchen AND Trent's highchair..he upped it to 25 minutes; I know I got the better end of the deal.

9 month check-up

Trent had his 9 month check up today, a few weeks past his 9 month "birthday". His height was a little above average, and his weight was a little below average, but the Dr said there's no concern, he's just a lean boy. The kid eats a lot, but is extremely active, I mean REALLY active, so I guess he's just burning off those calories. He said that developmentally he is a little ahead of schedule, and is perfectly healthy. We are so grateful that we have such a healthy and strong little boy. We know that there are a lot of people out there that aren't as fortunate as we are, and we thank the Lord for our many blessings everyday.

Last weekend Scott and I went to lunch with Scott's parents to the Olive Garden, one of my absolute favorites! We hardly get to go there because there's only one in town, and everytime we go there's always an hour wait at the least. We went for a late lunch, so this time we got in right away, a first for us. Trent slept through most of lunch but when he woke up, we decided to hand him a whole breadstick to see what he'd do with it. He was in heaven, he loved it just as much as we do. Only a first time mom would take pictures like this...

Trent seems to be learning new things each day now. Last week he learned how to wave bye, except his version of waving is sticking his hand straight in the air and holding it there, no wave to it, no open and close of the hand, just a hand stuck in the air. He says "buh buh" for Bye Bye, it's really cute. He's been attempting to stand in the middle of the room by himself, without anything to pull up on, that's a funny sight as well. Yesterday out of nowhere he learned how to clap, which he has now been doing all morning today. I decided to take a picture, only after he fell and smacked his head on the computer desk. The best part of it is that he sat up looked at me and clapped, I guess it was his way of telling me he was fine. So here's him clapping with a goose egg on his forehead, poor guy!

sTORI Telling

So, when Scott and I moved into our house, we decided we'd switch from Cable to Satellite, only because we would get more channels for less money. I was a little skeptical on the switch at first, only because I had never had satellite in my life and didn't know what to expect. But I soon grew attached to it because we have 2 DVR's in our home so we can tape any show we want when we're not home or if we want to watch something else while taping another show, we can. Being a stay at home mom, there's only so much cleaning you can do around the house in the afternoon right? well at least I tell myself that...oh and Scott lol. So one day while Trent was napping I was channel surfing and I came across the SOAP channel. I've never been into watching SOAPS but one in particular caught my eye Beverly Hills 90210. Go ahead and laugh, but I stopped on the channel. To my luck (or is it luck?) the series was just starting over from the very first episode (which was absolutely horrible, especially with the mullets, spandex pants, and hot pink hair bows)...but I mean come on it was 1990. I decided I would DVR the whole series, just because I was never allowed to watch it when I was younger..1990 would've meant I was only 6 years old, no 6 year old should be watching that. I soon grew addicted, even to the poor acting and stupid "life situations" that would arise. When Scott would get home he'd make fun of me for DVR'ing the episodes, but the funny thing is, he'd watch them with me lol. Guarantee if you ask him, he'll deny deny deny. Anyway, I grew fascinated with "Donna Martin" or as we know her Tori Spelling. I'm not sure why, I guess it's because she also has her own reality show "Tori and Dean Home Sweet Hollywood" on the Oxygen channel (I'm a sucker for reality shows). On her show she mentioned she had a book coming out called sTORI Telling, how cleaver of a name huh? ok so this is the embarassing part...I went out and bought it lol. I read 120 pages in one sitting, and finished the book the next day. It was surprisingly good. I know there's more wholesome and uplifting books I could be reading but I was really interested in her life story. If anyone knows me they know that when I'm at any grocery store or drug store I have to flip through your OK Magazine, In Touch Weekly, or Us Weekly magazines to get current with all of your Hollywood gossip. So it really doesn't surprise me that I bought the book...and be honest does it really surprise you? that's what I thought

Family Trips

Since I started this blog yesterday, there's lots of things I want to catch up on, such as different family outings we've gone on. In April after tax season was over, we went on a much needed vacation to Monterey and Carmel. We stayed in a wonderful hotel (which I'm drawing a complete blank on the name of it) but each room was in individual cabins, and the rooms were HUGE with it's own family room, fireplace, master bedroom, and the best part...a HUGE jacuzzi tub, I've never seen one so big. We took Trent to the MontereyBay Aquarium, which I haven't been to since I was in elementary school (I remember it being so much bigger when I was little). Trent seemed to like the fish, that is..until he feel asleep. Afterwards we went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory, and we opted to eat outisde right on the water, it was a beautiful day! We walked up and down cannery row and bought a huge bag of salt water taffy and of course sour licorice for me :) We later went on the infamous 17 mile drive and looked at rediculously huge houses on the golf courses. Sunday we ended our trip by going to Carmel and walked around the stores there. Scott bought me another Coach diaper bag...he spoils me too much. We took Trent down to the beach where he sat on the sand for the very first time. YES..he tried to put the sand in his mouth but he was unsuccessful! Here's some pictures..

One afternoon while Scott was working, Kimmy and her two kids, and Trent and I went to the zoo, this was Trent's first time there...and again..I hadn't been there since I was a kid. The zoo needs a little remodeling, and it's a lot smaller than I remember it. But my main purpose in going is to show Trent the animals there. I guess I pick bad times to go to things like this because he lasted about 30 minutes and he was asleep

At the end of June, my grandpa Boatwright from Virginia, came out to California and stayed with my parents for a week. This was his first time meeting Trent, and it was very exciting for all of us. The last time I saw him was at my wedding, which was Scott's first time meeting him, so it was great having him out here, it'd been too long! We hope to take a trip back to Virginia sometime next year so that Scott can meet the rest of my family on my mom's side. My grandpa is into bird watching and nature so my parents took him to Morro Bay, but while he was in Fresno we decided to go to Woodward Park. I mean..where else do you take someone to look at birds & nature here in Fresno? our original plan was to go to the Japanese Gardens there in the park but it was closed that day, so we just sat on a park bench in the shade (it was 100+ degrees outside) while my grandpa looked at different wildlife...it was actually pretty relaxing.

4th of July

For the 4th we pretty much just hung out over at Scott's parents. We barbequed, and ate homemade ice-cream. Later in the evening we shot off little fireworks in the street, mainly for my 2 1/2 year old nephew Tyler's enjoyment, since he was the only one there that would appreciate them. I think I was more excited to put Trent in his 4th of July outfit, than I was about the actual holiday

Circus Time!

Last week Trent turned 9 months old. I really can't believe that he's that old, time sure does fly by fast. He's been pulling himself up onto things since he was 7 months old, and walks around tables and couches like a pro. He gets into EVERYTHING!! and the funny part is, ill tell him "no no Trent" and he turns around, looks at me with the hugest smile, and laughs as I walk towards him to pull him away from things he's not supposed to be getting into. Our child already has an attitude! Last week Scott's sister Amy came into town from Utah with her 3 children (she's pregnant with the 4th, and her oldest is 4...she's crazy! LOL) anyway, the whole Wilcox family went to the circus last Thursday. We went to the Children's hospital Pre-party for the circus, where they have face painting, balloon animals, bounce houses, food and little games for the kids. We got there at 5 and the circus didn't start til 7:30. Once it was over we didn't get to our car until almost 10, so it was quite a long night. Trent seemed to enjoy the first part of the circus; there were lots of lights and sounds. He fell asleep about 30 minutes into the show and didnt wake up until intermission. All in all the circus was fun, but why is it so darn long? what kid will last until 9:30 at night? When the lights came back on half of the people were gone, most likely because their kids were getting unruley. Here's some pictures....
